Drau cycle path R1 in Carinthia
The Upper Drau Valley is one of the most attractive cycling areas in Austria and one of the most beautiful stages of the Drau Cycle Path. The Drau Cycle Route R1 has been awarded a 5-star quality cycling tour by the ADFC.
One of the most beautiful bike paths
The Drau Cycle Path is one of a few European cycle paths with the highest possible distinction. It runs for about 366 kilometers from the source of the Drava at Toblacherfeld in South Tyrol via Lienz in East Tyrol to Berg im Drautal and on to Spittal an der Drau and past many Carinthian lakes to Maribor in Slovenia. Drauradweg Wirte
The Glocknerhof in Berg im Drautal is a member of the well-known Drauradwegwirte (hosts of the Drau cycle path) and an attractive starting point for pleasure cyclists. The hotel is situated on a slight slope with a fantastic view and allows bicycle tours in all directions.
It’s best to take a few days and stay at the Glocknerhof. But also guests for a night in transit are welcome.
Mountain bike trails from one alpine pasture to another
The Emberger Alm and the Oberberger Alm are connected by a panoramic path. Route: Glocknerhof to Oberberger Alm on asphalt and gravel, Oberberger Alm to Emberger Alm on gravel, Emberger Alm to Glocknerhof on asphalt. Refreshment stops along the way: Buschenschenke Hupfa (tavern with wine and local snacks) on the Oberberg, Sattlegger’s Alpenhof, Fichtenheim (restaurants) and Dünhofenhütte (Alpine hut) on the Emberger Alm.
From the e-bike into the lake
In the warm months, you couldn’t combine sport and cooling off any better: Comfortably climb the Tröbelsberg past farms through forest and meadows 300 meters in altitude to the Weissensee lake on your e-bike. The reward: a refreshing swim in the lake. Delightful!
Three mountain bike trails at the Weissensee
Take the cable car up, mountain bike down the trail and then jump into the lake. At the mountain railway from Weissenseer there is a new bike experience for beginners and advanced bikers of a special kind: root paths, hairpin bends, steep curves, wave track and wooden bridges. The length of the three mountain bike trails averages 3.5 kilometers. You can find the bike rental on site. There are huts to stop at on the mountain and in the valley.
Bicycle tours
By bike along the Drau Cycle Path R1 to Lienz in East Tyrol. Relax with ice cream and coffee on the promenade in the center of the city. Let the hustle and bustle take its toll on you. After a stroll through town and a ride on the Osttirodler – a spectacular Alpine Coaster with a length of 2.7 kilometers – you can either return by bike or comfortably use the train and enjoy the ride to Berg im Drautal. If you can’t make the last meters of altitude to the hotel, call us and we will pick you up.
By bike to the Drau cycle path R1 in the direction of Lienz. Immediately after Noah’s Ark you will reach the lime kilns in the forest. Here you park your bike and head into the wild and romantic Gaislochklamm (a gorge with free entrance). Either follow the hiking trail and cross the gorge over the lovingly built bridges or follow the stream barefoot (highly recommended for families with children on warm days). You leave the gorge and continue along the Drau cycle path to the herb village of Irschen. After a visit to the “Kräuterhaus Pfarrstadel” (free admission) and a guided tour of herbs, follow the idyllic Bergdörfer-Panorama-Radweg (mountain village panorama bike path) along the Höhenweg (high trail) past flower-adorned farms via the community of Dellach im Drautal back to Berg im Drautal (e-bike and hiking map recommended).
